Instructions for Submission
I. Publishing Principles
Articles published in the Journal of Philosophical Ideas are
- (1) academic papers,
- (2) critiques or discussions of other paper(s) or book(s), or
- (3) book reviews or review articles that address several books on a related topic.
A series of articles that specially address a focused topic may be published in the format of a special issue.
- The Journal of Philosophical Ideas is published four times per year: February 28, May 31, August 31, and November 30.
- When necessary, the Journal of Philosophical Ideas may publish offprints. As for offprints, they are to follow the usual editorial principles. However, a separate editorial board may be organized.
- Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Philosophical Ideas must not have been previously presented elsewhere (in single-volume works or other academic journals including online ones) and must not be partly or wholly identical or similar to already published articles. However, in the case of offprints, the Offprint Editorial Board may decide to make exceptions when necessary
II. Author Guidelines
1. Manuscript style
- Manuscripts must be written in English if not in Korean. In special cases or cases where there are possible confusions or misunderstandings, explanatory Chinese characters or Roman (Latin) letters can be added within parentheses (( )).
- Manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words.
- Book reviews should not exceed 1,500 words. Review articles should not exceed 2,000 words.
- For editorial consistency, chapters, sections, paragraphs, and items should be indicated as I, 1, (1), and ①, respectively, as much as possible.
- Quotations must be indicated by double quotation marks (“ ”). Emphases according to the author’s intentions must be indicated by single quotation marks (‘ ’) or italics.
- Omissions made by the author within quotations must be indicated with ellipses (. . .). Additions made by the author within quotations must be indicated with square brackets ([ ]).
- Notes must be footnotes. However, frequently quoted works may be indicated in the main body of the paper in the format of simplified quotations, as in “(author, year, page number).”
- A list of reference materials must be completed and attached to the end of the paper. Reference materials must be limited to the works that are mentioned in the article.
- Reference materials must be listed in the order of documents in Korean, Sino-Korean, and other languages. They must be sorted in the Han’geul and alphabetical orders, respectively.
- Reference materials must be indicated as follow:
- Book titles:

Books in East Asian languages: Use white corner brackets (『 』).
Books in Western languages: Italicize.
- Paper titles:
-
Papers in East Asian languages: Use corner brackets (「 」).
Papers in Western languages: Use parentheses (“ ”)..
- Other items must follow general conventions for writing articles.
2. Manuscript Submission
- Manuscripts must be composed using word processors. (MS word 2010 or above)
- The font should be Times New Romans 12, the right/left margin should be 0, and the indentation should be 2, respectively.
- Manuscripts must be sent to the following e-mail address of the Journal of Philosophical Ideas: philinst@gmail.com
- Manuscripts may be submitted all year round.

If a manuscript for a journal article is submitted, a summary either in Korean or in English must be attached. A summary must contain:
- (1) topic classifications (by areas such as logic, metaphysics, epistemology and ethic or/and by periods such as ancient, medieval and modern)
- (2) four to seven keywords
- (3) abstract (about 150 words).

When a manuscript is submitted, the following information must be included in the main body of the e-mail:
- (1) paper title
- (2) author’s name in Korean or English
- (3) author’s affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address
- Distinction must be made between the first author and the co-author(s), and all of their affiliations must be stated.
- Papers that are supported by a research grant should include an acknowledgement required by the funding institution.
3. Others
- As for a paper that is supported by a research grant, a publication fee of 400,000KRW must be paid. A receipt will be issued upon payment.
- As for a full-time faculty member, a publication fee of 100,000KRW must be paid when the publication of the paper is finalized. A receipt can be issued when requested by the author.
- Offprints are not provided.
